A Declaration of Unity -
This we owe to A. A. 's future:
To place our common welfare first;
To keep our fellowship united.
For on A. A. Unity depend our lives,
And the lives of those to come.
I am responsible...
When anyone, anywhere, reaches out for help,
I want the hand of A. A. to always be there.
And for that: I am responsible.

Traditions that directly apply to service -
Tradition Three: The only requirement for A. A. membership is a desire to stop drinking.
Tradition Four: Each group should be autonomous except in matters affecting other groups or A. A. as a whole.
Tradition Five: Each group has but one primary purpose - to carry the A. A. message to the alcoholic who still suffers.
Tradition Seven: Every A.A. group ought to be fully self-supporting, declining outside contributions.
Tradition Twelve: Anonymity is the spiritual foundation of all our Traditions, ever reminding us to place principles before personalities.
Concept I: The final responsibility and the ultimate authority for A. A. world services should always reside in the collective conscience of our whole fellowship.

Suggested Group Servant Positions
Suggested Readings, such as various A.A. Guidelines, and Pamphlets are yellow and in parenthesis. These A.A. Guidelines and Pamphlets represent the shared experience of A.A.
members and groups throughout the service areas in the United States and
Canada. They also reflect guidance given through the Twelve Traditions
and the General Service Conference (U.S. and Canada). In keeping with
our Tradition of autonomy, except in matters affecting other groups or
A.A. as a whole, most decisions are made by the group conscience of the
members involved. The purpose of these Guidelines and Pamphlets is to assist in
reaching an Informed group conscience. Any member would benefit from the suggested readings below whether the member holds a position or not.
